Autumn 2024

Reading Meeting 30.9.24

Thank you so much to those that attended tonight's Reading Meeting.

Attached is the presentation and as part of the presentation there are links to watch (see below) - these are aimed at parents so take it step by step about the Read Write Inc (developed by Ruth Miskin) Process (the reading scheme we follow). So please have a look at these and if you have any questions please just ask.

How to say all the sounds – remember pure sounds only - watch out for the schwar (adding an 'uh' after the sound)!!

How to help teaching to blend the sounds - parent and child, being able to do hear the sounds, not just read them is so important =

At this point, it is focusing on the simple steps like having fun with sounds (like hearing the sounds for 'I Spy' and playing with rhyming words), enriching vocabulary and most importantly using your imagination and creativity with story telling so the children keep developing a LOVE of reading.

Once we begin the sounds then it is just keeping it little and often to practise recognising the sounds. This can be done with games like 'swat the sound', snap and going on a sound hunt. Keeping it as practical, visual, active and as fun as possible to make it memorable.

To begin with we will send picture books home, then blending books and then reading books but keep practising your sounds so your child becomes so confident and fluent.

We will be reading or practising with our sounds every single day as part of our daily routine but we will not be recoding it in their reading record. That is there for you to record each time you read a school book (hopefully at least three reads a week) and so we can check how things are going at home for you.

In the meantime, have fun, keep that love of reading for them with bedtime stories and library books and thank you for the support.
